How to Convert UHD Blu-rays to 4K MKV, 4K M2TS, Dolby Vision MP4 and More
UHD Blu-rays are currently the highest storage standard for the best possible ultra HD entertainment. UHD Blu-ray discs are commonly available as 66GB and 100GB discs and they clearly support HDR, and HDR10. An UHD Blu-ray is a technical advancement over the standard Blu-ray disc. That’s why for the 4K ultra high definition entertainment the commercial movie disc distributors focus only on this disc type. Remember that you can’t play a UHD Blu-ray on a standard Blu-ray player and a 4K UHD Blu-ray player is required for the same.
4K UHD players are quite expensive too and most people can’t even afford them. If you do like to watch ultra high definition movies and don’t have a 4K UHD player then don’t worry. In this article we will teach you to convert your UHD Blu-rays to 4K video formats while retaining the HDR or HDR10 visual quality. After conversion you can play those movies easily off a USB drive or an external hard drive on a 4K UHDTV. The entire conversion will be done by DVDFab UHD Ripper. Please find its detailed description below.

Part 1.2: Special Hardware Requirements to Rip 4K UHD Blu-ray
You have UHD Blu-ray discs that can’t be played on normal Blu-ray players. To rip 4K UHD Blu-ray disc you’ll need at least an internal UHD Blu-ray optical ROM drive. Without it there’s no meaning of following this article till the end. We know that most people can’t afford consumer grade UHD Blu-ray players but anyone who has a taste for 4K UHD movies can easily afford an UHD Blu-ray internal ROM drive.
However, if you still can’t find an internal UHD Blu-ray burner drive then you should have your UHD Blu-ray discs either as an ISO file or folder. Many disc copy software like DVDFab are able to create ISO image files or folders out of 4K UHD Blu-ray disc. You can ask your friends or several multimedia software dealers if they can convert your UHD Blu-ray disc to ISO or a folder. This way you can clearly eliminate the need of the UHD Blu-ray burner.
To proceed further with this article, you have to fulfil at least one requirement out of the two, which are either having a UHD Blu-ray internal optical drive or having an ISO or a folder of the UHD Blu-ray disc. Also remember that your PC should have at least an Intel Core i3/i5/i7 CPU with a decent graphics card from Nvidia or AMD. UHD Blu-ray processing requires powerful processing, so don’t expect serious performance from basic computer hardware.
And finally, we don’t need to tell you that you should be having a 4K UHDTV or at least a 4K monitor to enjoy the UHD movies after ripping.
Part 1.3: What’s a UHD Blu-ray ISO or a Folder?
A UHD Blu-ray disc contains movie data like movie files, audio files, subtitles, and extras just like other types of discs do (e.g. DVDs and Blu-rays). This data stored on the disc can be extracted and packed into an image file which is known as an ISO file. This ISO file is just like a mirror-image of your UHD Blu-ray disc having all its data packed in an ISO archive. This ISO image is a soft copy of the UHD disc and also serves as a backup which can be easily stored on computer hard drives, external hard drives, and removable media. The most interesting facts about a disc ISO file are as follows.
- It is a soft-copy mirror-image of the physical UHD Blu-ray disc.
- ISO files have the original 4K quality as that of the original UHD disc. However, with a software like DVDFab 11 one can also create a downscaled ISO file having lower resolution.
- The ISO image file can be easily burned to a blank UHD Blu-ray disc.
- ISO files can be easily shared with your friends.
On the other hand, a UHD Blu-ray folder is just a copy of all the folders stored on the disc. You can manually copy all the folders of the UHD Blu-ray disc to your PC using the simple copy function provided by the operating system. In case of encrypted UHD Blu-ray discs you can’t copy the folders manually because it is copy-protected. You’ll need a sophisticated software like DVDFab UHD Copy to make the UHD folder for you by removing the disc encryptions.
